Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
