Catherine's Annual Festive Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The sizable congregation will listen to a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Music and Opportunity
Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the evening's event.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.
That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
